Canada is one of only a few countries in the world to recognize same-sex marriage and what better place to celebrate than Montreal? This primarily French-speaking city is full of old world history and culture, and still maintains its cosmopolitan flair as an international gay destination. Located in East Canada, just North of Vermont, Montreal is easily accessible via air, and is home to the famous Black & Blue Festival held in October.

The “Village” is located in the west section of downtown, and is the epicenter of the city’s gay scene. Here, you can find bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels and cafes that cater to their gay friends. St. Catherine Street is where it all happens and is easily accessible by foot or metro, where you can hop on or off at Berri, Beaudry, or Papineau stations. Beginning May 18 to September 12, the Village section of St. Catherine Street is closed to all vehicles, allowing restaurants and bars to set up terraces and patios so guests can dine al fresco. Be sure you visit O’Thym on de Maisonneuve Street for some appetizing cuisine, or La Piazetta on the corner of St. Catherine and Amherst for some classic pizza or pasta. Le Saloon on St. Catherine offers their take on Western Fusion, complete with either live music or a DJ. Enjoy a walking tour of Old Montreal or pop into Simon’s for some new club duds for the evening. Enjoy happy hour on the rooftop deck at Sky, take in a drag show at Chez Mado then off to Parking for Boys Night Out. Vancouver – Canada’s Gay Jewel in the Pacific Northwest

Vancouver is Canada’s jewel in the Pacific Northwest. Home to the 2010 Winter Olympics and Whistler’s Gay Ski Week, this metropolitan city is surrounded by gorgeous mountains, peaceful waters, and has the largest gay population in Western Canada.

The heart of Vancouver’s gayborhood is Davie Street, where you’ll find Celebrities Night Club and Pump Jack. If you like sports bars check out The Fountainhead Pub, or to mix and mingle, check out 1181, which has won numerous local awards for Best Bar, Straight Friendly Gay Bar, and the Place for Best Drinks. A local favorite for sushi is Kadoya, and Central Bistro is ideal for brunch, a bite on the patio, or cocktails with friends before hitting the nightclubs. Visit during the North American Outgames being held in Vancouver this year from July 25-31, and finish off the weekend with Vancouver Pride on July 31. You can also visit Vancouver during the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival August 11 – 21.

Gay Chicago – Breaking In Boys Town

Chicago has been one of the top LGBT destinations for the past several years. It’s famous for deep dish pizza, one of the world’s busiest airports, and the Sears Tower (now called Willis Tower.) With its breathtaking skylines, and Millennium Park, you’ll find your choice of adventure, restaurants, bars, cultural activities and shopping in Chicago. For starters, buy a Go Chicago card which gets you access to more than 20 attractions including the Navy Pier, Skydeck Chicago, and several Gray Line Tours. If shopping makes you twitch, make your way to Michigan Avenue and Magnificent Mile. With 400+ stores, you’re sure to shop till you drop, or until you max out your credit cards (or your Daddy’s credit cards!) Check out Gino’s East for some famous deep dish (and I don’t mean really good gossip – pizza, people, pizza!) After a day of attractions, shopping and eating, you’ll need to take a disco nap at one of many TAG approved hotels. Stay at the W Chicago Lakeshore, Burnham Kimpton, or Monaco Chicago Kimpton, where you can pamper and primp to hit the gayborhood, Boys Town.
