Mardi Gras might be a tradition steeped in religion, but if it’s not the gayest celebration known to man, then Cher has never had a facelift.  Think about it: deco jewelry beads being thrown from ostentatious floats, enough feather boas to launch an attack of allergic proportions and costumes to make Cirque du Soleil look like a burnt out light bulb.

If that doesn’t already sound like a queen’s paradise, there’s even a Gay Mardi Gras celebration that takes place in tandem with the original New Orleans claim to fame.  With its birth in the 1950’s, the Gay Mardi Gras has formed its own traditions like masked balls, custom contests, and—of course—drag shows.  This year’s Gay Mardi Gras takes place from February 19th to the 24th.  What are you waiting for?
